본문 3과-1
Look at the picture of the bicycle helmet. It was destroyed due to the actions of its careless rider. Andy Dappen was trying to do a jump with his bike, but he lost his balance and was thrown from his bike and landed on his head. Despite hitting his head on the ground and having his helmet break into pieces, Dappen was barely injured. In fact, he walked away with just a few scratches and bruises thanks largely to his helmet. What happened to Dappen should teach many people two of the most important lessons when it comes to cycling: don't be too adventurous and always wear protective gear. Even though it is fun to ride a bicycle, however good you are at it, you can get seriously hurt if you don't care about your safety. Before you head out for a bike ride, it's important to learn some of the rules of the road. If you're riding on the road, behave like a car. Perhaps the main reason why there is so much dislike between drivers and cyclists is that many cyclists take liberties with their bicycles by ignoring traffic lights and switching between the road and sidewalk. This is dangerous and silly. Cyclists must follow the same rules that apply to cars. This means riding in the same direction as traffic, stopping at all stop signs and lights, and yielding to pedestrians. You should know how to properly pass and be passed. If you're riding on a popular bike route, try to ride straight and do not move back and forth too much. Faster cyclists might want to pass you. If you need to pass someone, pull up behind that person and say, "On your left." Wait for the cyclist to pull to the right to allow you to pass. And always respond by saying, "Thank you." Despite what you may hear, most cyclists are kind people and appreciate being thanked.
