Language problem of a young child may be apparent at early age. Speech and language functions deteriorate rapidly until patients are unable to communicate altogether. A general term used to describe some of the progressive diseases of the nervous system in elderly people in dementia. Adult loss of language also may be due to many neurological diseases typically found in older people. When the left hemisphere is damaged, most adults suffer a language disorder known as aphasia, which is a loss of language. A frequent cause of adult language disorders is a stroke, which interrupts the flow of blood to various parts of the brain. Most of these causes involve damage to the brain, especially the left hemisphere, which is most responsible for language functions in a majority of people. The sudden appearance of a language problem in adults may be caused by one of several things. Persons with intellectual disabilities or congenital deafness may continue to have oral language problems throughout their lives. In some cases, the language disorders of childhood may persist into adulthood. The child's sentences may be simple or telegraphic, which means that they are missing such grammatical elements as articles, prepositions and conjunctions. Once some forms of sentences are learned, the child may fail to use various grammatical morphemes. The child may be delayed in babbling, saying the first words, combining words into phrases, and producing grammatically correct sentences. However, these children do not acquire language at the same rate as others their age. Most children who experience difficulties in acquiring language do acquire some language. Voice quality disorders in many cases are due to vocally abusive behaviors of speakers. A failure to acquire language in childhood or a loss of language in adulthood affects all aspects of life. Language disorders in children are impaired learning of their primary or secondary language. However, they cannot accurately produce what they can formulate because they have difficulty moving the speech structures as they wish. The term 'motor' suggests that the movement of the speech mechanism has been impaired because of nerve damage. Such disorders are called motor speech disorders. Whereas most children's speech or articulation disorders are functional, speech disorders in adults, especially in those who have had normal speech, are usually due to some neurological problem. Errors of many phonemes that form patterns or clusters are described as phonological disorders. Currently, articulation disorders are more often described as speech sound disorders. Articulation is disordered when a person cannot correctly produce one or more of the phonemes of his or her language. In fact, problems of speech sound production in school-age children are among the most frequently treated disorders of communication. Most children learn to produce the speech sounds of their language with ease and no special instruction. As a fundamental aspect of communication, normal and healthy voice is essential for socially acceptable oral communication. Vocal nodules, more commonly seen in children, are small nodes that develop on the vocal folds and cause breathy and hoarse voice.
