PART 01 - REVIEW TEST(5~6)
Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is a widely recognized religious figure. Although uncertain of the exact dates, historians believe he lived sometime during the 5th century. He was born and raised in Britain. Then, at the age of 16, he was kidnapped by pirates, who took him to Ireland and sold him into slavery. During his years working there as a shepherd, he turned to Christianity for comfort and became very religious. After six years of slavery, he was eventually able to escape and go back to his native Britain. A few years after returning to Britain, Patrick became a priest. He began dreaming of the voices of Irish people telling him to go back to Ireland and spread Christianity among them. Patrick decided to follow this calling and returned to Ireland as a missionary after several years of study and preparation. Although some Christians were already living there, Patrick converted the nobles and the majority of the common people to Christianity. However, this was not easily accomplished. The priests of local religions were afraid of losing their followers, so they started arguments and even tried to have Patrick killed. Despite this opposition, his mission was successful and is said to have lasted around 30 years. During that time, he not only spread his faith, but also set the groundwork for the establishment of churches all over Ireland. Historians believe that Saint Patrick was also responsible for bringing the written word to Ireland by introducing religious texts. Before his arrival, information had only been passed down through memory and storytelling. Today, Saint Patrick's contributions are honored every year on March 17th. Saint Patrick is now recognized all over the world, and his holiday is celebrated in many countries.
